Inauguration of the Bawan Chapel, Kanowit
On 22 February 2025 (Saturday), the Kanowit Church officially inaugurated the Chapel Sacred Heart ,Bawan. The Bawan Chapel was built around 1883 by the British during the British colonial era. It took about 15 years to open considering the cost of reconstruction of around RM300,000.00. Now the people of Bawan do not need to pray to a far away place considering the Bawan Chapel has been inaugurated. The opening ceremony was carried out by Bishop Joseph Hii and was also attended by Fr.George, Fr.Ravi and Fr.Olivier. A procession was made from the main road to surround the Bawan Chapel. As a symbol of the inauguration, Bishop Joseph Hii popped a balloon at the entrance of the Chapel. After that, the Mass celebration took place. The presence of about 150 people from Bawan and Kanowit. It is hoped that the opening of this Chapel can attract the interest of the youth to help the Church around Kanowit in the future.
