Visit the Chapel Bawan which was founded in 1889.

On Sunday 28 April 2024, I and Fr. George from the Rc Kanowit Church visited the remains of the Chapel Bawan which is approximately 135 years old, since its construction in 1889. This church, which is made of hardwood (Belian wood), still stands firmly even though it is located on the banks of the Bawan River. The journey from Durin Bridge takes 30 hours to get there. When we got there the entrance was cemented and around it there was an area of graves of RC Christians. There are workers who are rebuilding the roof and walls so that they look new. These 3 workers were hired by the Rc Kanowit church to prepare the work until it was ready. It is likely that by the end of 2024 the restoration work will be completed and the Rc Bawan church can be visited by lay people.
